The world is your oyster when you fly by helicopter, and here at Cotswold Airport we’re lucky to be within easy reach of a huge number of lovely places for day trips this summer. If you’re thinking of chartering a helicopter to fly somewhere, but you’re not sure where you’d like to go yet, here are some ideas for starters…
1. Lucknam Park
A firm favourite here at Voler Aviation, Lucknam Park is a beautiful country house hotel and spa just 10 minutes’ flight time from our base at Cotswold Airport. With its beautiful landscaped grounds, avenue of trees and gorgeous interiors, Lucknam Park is a wonderfully relaxing destination whether for afternoon tea or an overnight stay. There’s loads of room on the helipad if you want to bring some friends and take more than one helicopter!
2. The Classic Motor Hub
In the market for a classic car? Even if you’re not, you won’t want to miss the chance to fly in and take a look around the stunning showrooms at the Classic Motor Hub. Just 10 minutes’ flight time from Cotswold Airport, the Classic Motor Hub is a mecca for motoring enthusiasts and always has a Salon Privé-worthy line-up in stock. Located on part of former RAF Bibury, the hangars are beautifully restored and full of treasures to excite the most ardent of petrolheads. There’s a great gift shop, too, so it’s just as well our helicopters have luggage space!
3. Babington House
If you’re lucky enough to be a Soho House member, or know someone who is, the private members’ club’s original country outpost, Babington House, is just 20 minutes by air from Cotswold Airport. Arrive by helicopter for a landing on the cricket pitch and get your country retreat off to an exhilarating start – we’ll make sure you get there in time for afternoon tea and a massage at the Cowshed Spa!
4. Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons
In the mood for fine dining? Make it an even more special occasion by flying into Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, just half an hour by air from Cotswold Airport. Of course, not only is it tremendously exciting to arrive and depart by helicopter (you can’t get a more VIP experience than that!), but it also means you’ll be able to enjoy those food and wine pairings without worrying about driving back. Bon appetit!
5. The Isle of Wight
Forget the ferry – if you fancy a jaunt down to the Isle of Wight, it’s only 45 to 50 minutes by air from Cotswold Airport and there’s no waiting around for a crossing. If there’s only time for a day trip, we can highly recommend The Hut at Colwell Bay for fabulous seafood right next to the sea. We’ll land you at a nearby country house, and the team at The Hut will come out to fetch you in a vintage Land Rover. They’ll drop you back when it’s time to fly home, though we might need to recalculate the weight and balance after all that great food!
